Role Model: Lucy Morgan, CEO of Pod Talent

Event: Being an Ally

Date: 01/02/24

As our first role model, Lucy Morgan, CEO of Pod Talent, says ‘An openly LGBTQ+ role models create visibility…and show other it’s ok to be who you are’.  Hear more from Lucy below on changes they would like to see and the importance of being a visible role within the recruitment sector.

What changes have you seen within the recruitment sector for LGBTQ+ people?

Sadly, not too many. I think there are some amazing organisations who have visible LGBTQ+ leaders, who are making a change themselves, and small businesses creating an inclusive space, but more needs to be done in the traditional, bigger players in our sector.

What changes would you like to see and how can the recruitment sector do better for LGBTQ+ people?

Education specifically on how to create a safe space for LGBTQ+ people in recruitment, not just in general, and a zero tolerance policy rolled out by businesses where homophobia, transphobia, and all forms of hate aren't accepted.

Why is it important that people have LGBTQ+ role models within the recruitment sector?

An openly LGBTQ+ role model creates visibility, can educate others, can create a safe space and can show others it's ok to be who you are. If a business doesn't have a LGBTQ+ role model, they should model the behaviour of excellent allies.

What do you hope being a visible role model in the recruitment sector will achieve for LGBTQ+ people, allies and those within the sector in general?

A safe space where LGBTQ+ people can join the recruitment industry, have meaningful and long-term careers, free from discrimination or a need to hide their true selves.

Thank you to Lucy for being our first role model. If you’d like to hear more from Lucy and our other role models our next event ‘Being an Ally’ is on the 1st February and open to both the LGBTQ+ community and allies.
