LGBTQ+ recruiter experience series

Last week, Campaign hosted an insightful virtual event as part of our ongoing LGBTQ+ Recruiter Experience series. In this session, we delved into the crucial topic of "rainbow washing versus reality," with a spotlight on authentic experiences and effective strategies for LGBTQ+ recruitment.

Here are some highlights from the event:

Sharing Experiences. Seba, who works in the industry as a recruiter for Pod Talent, generously shared their invaluable perspective as an LGBTQ+ recruiter, sharing first-hand experiences of engaging with clients and allies in the field.

Exploring Effective Strategies: Our MC, Maria Cuffaro founder and CEO of Virativa, led an engaging discussion with our panellists, focusing on the strategies, governance, and policies that have proven to be effective in improving the hiring of diverse, specifically LGBTQ+ talent within organisations.

Real-Life Case Studies: Ellen Mulvey, Executive Director at Bruin Financial, shared a compelling case study illustrating a client's journey from "box ticking" to implementing a robust strategy aimed at increasing LGBTQ+ talent attraction and fostering internal inclusivity.

Bridging the Gap: Our MC continued the conversation with Ellen and Seba, delving into the crucial role of recruiters in supporting management to align with company diversity hiring strategies. They explored ways to bridge the gap between policy and practice, empowering management to become better allies throughout the hiring process.

The event provided a safe and inclusive space for LGBTQ+ recruiters and their allies from across the recruitment industry to share insights, challenges, and success stories, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.

Robert Woodford at the Marketing Junction attended the event saying
"We are a small business and we are proud to be doing what we can in becoming as inclusive as possible. But there is always more to do.

I think a lot of concern is that these issues when discussed in the media are often polarised and the stereotypical image is that you can’t make a mistake and if you do you’ll lose your job and life. I think the LGBTQ+ community is also often portrayed as intolerant.

We’ve been lucky that our openly non-binary employee and our openly gay employee help us understand and forgive us any mistakes, helping us to learn along the way. At times it has felt like they are the exception. But after today I’ve become more aware that they are not.

This discussion today felt like a safe space for me trying to learn too. I’m so grateful. I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt I’ve learnt so much and feel empowered."

Stay tuned for more enriching discussions as we continue our journey towards creating diverse and inclusive workplaces!
