Role Model: Grace Broad, Client Services Manager
With Pride month imminent now seemed the best time to release the next participants in our ‘Role Model Series’. Grace Broad, Client Services Manager at Goodman Masson, is next to take the spotlight and believes ‘I didn't realise that I needed representation and strong allies at work until I got them.’ Hear more from Grace below what she has learned during her time in the industry and the importance of being a visible role within the recruitment sector.
What changes have you seen within the recruitment sector for LGBTQ+ people?
When I joined the recruitment sector I wasn't aware of any LGBTQ+ network groups, and I'm not sure I really knew what it meant to be an ally. Now I am part of network groups internally, as well as externally through Campaign and I'm constantly learning more and more about inclusivity and allyship.
What changes would you like to see and how can the recruitment sector do better for LGBTQ+ people?
It's great to see these groups and the excitement from all the members, however I would love to see greater involvement and recognition from the wider industry! There is so much more we can all learn about how we can support and celebrate LGBTQ+ people in the workplace and to see more companies and colleagues recognise and show interest in this would be great.
Why is it important that people have LGBTQ+ role models within the recruitment sector?
The recruitment sector (along with all sectors) should feel like a safe space for individuals to be truly themselves. LGBTQ+ role models will empower people to be authentic, which can only benefit individual careers as well as the organisations they work for.
What do you hope being a visible role model in the recruitment sector will achieve for LGBTQ+ people, allies and those within the sector in general?
I didn't realise that I needed representation and strong allies at work until I got them. The difference this has made to me and my career is huge, so having the opportunity to encourage, support and celebrate others is amazing.
