Role Model: Tyler Abrams, Senior Consultant at BioTalent

With Pride month coming to a close we hope you have all enjoyed the celebrations. Our next Role Model as part of our series is Tyler Abrams, Senior Consultant, Commercial Medical Device at BioTalent. Based in their New York office Tyler has been making sure Pride is celebrated in style with events on Pride in the Workpace though to him and his colleagues talking part in the NYC Pride walk.

Tyler feels that ‘having diverse talent all across the company is essential for any company to learn different perspectives.’

Hear more from Tyler below what they have learned during their time in the industry and the importance of being a visible role within the recruitment sector.

What changes have you seen within the recruitment sector for LGBTQ+ people?

The recruitment industry seems to have become more open minded and embracing of diverse talent. Particularly with BioTalent Communities, we've been able to engage with diverse networks like OUTbio Greater NY to lead DEI initiatives internally and externally.

What changes would you like to see and how can the recruitment sector do better for LGBTQ+ people?

I think knowledge is power! DEI is not just a checkmark, but it is within a company's DNA. Having diverse talent all across the company is essential for any company to learn different perspectives. At the end of the day, no matter how different we may be from one another, we are all able to find a common ground.

Why is it important that people have LGBTQ+ role models within the recruitment sector?

It is historically an industry that has not been super diverse. It is essential to have someone to look up to and be inspired by who understands the common issues we face within the LGBTQ+ community.

What do you hope being a visible role model in the recruitment sector will achieve for LGBTQ+ people, allies and those within the sector in general?

Presence is key. I am delighted to represent my industry while committing to my own forms of self-expression. I aim to show others that you don't have to fit into a certain mold or personality-type to be successful in this industry, but rather it is our differences and unique presence that make organizations stronger.

Thank you to Seba for being our role model. If you’d be keen to hear more about what Campaign are doing visit our site at Campaign (wecampaign.co) or follow us on LinkedIn.
